About PubWatch UK
PubWatch UK tracks the price of pub staples (fish & chips, burger, chips, steak, pie, sunday roast), pint prices by style, and house wine, at pubs across the United Kingdom.
What We Compare
Pub menus vary, but fish and chips, a burger and a portion of chips turn up almost everywhere, which is what makes a like-for-like comparison possible. Those three lead the board. Steak, pie and the Sunday roast are tracked and published too; they are simply not the three we rank on.
- Fish & Chips: the lowest-priced fish and chips on the menu, excluding specials.
- Burger: the lowest-priced burger, excluding specials.
- Chips: a standard portion, as a side or on its own.
- Beer: a pint, grouped by style rather than by brand.
- Specials: listed separately, by day. An everyday price and a Tuesday offer are not the same number.
Why Styles, Not Brands
A British draught line-up runs six to ten taps across thousands of brands, so a table of named beers would sit empty at most pubs. Grouping by style (Lager, Pale Ale & IPA, Ale & Bitter, Guinness, Stout, Cider) asks a question every bar can answer. Guinness keeps its own row, because it is a category of one and is priced on nearly every menu we see.
Prices Move
Every price carries the date it was last confirmed. Menus change, and a price that was right last month may not be right today. Check with the venue before you rely on it.
